Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside.....

Good evening bloggers and here is the news.

Photo from here.

I am sad to report that the superb 'Birdman of Bognor' event that was to be held in Worthing today was cancelled.

Doomed from the start it seems. First off, someone broke the pier at Bognor causing this spectacularly British event to be moved to neighbouring Worthing.

Then the fabulous British summer weather took it's toll.

After the rescue boats capsized three times the powers that be called a halt to the 2008 event. (Huh - softies!!!).

Some nutters still ventured out in the atrocious inclement conditions.

That'd be us then...

Good job we were able to enjoy good food, good chat and fine company with our dear friends! We've asked them to make sure the weather is booked well in advance for the 2009 event!

In other news, the blackbirds in Moogsvile were rewarded for all their hard work this week when one (is that all???) healthy, fluffsome chick fledged successfully.

There may have been others but they/it flew the nest very early in the morning thus robbing us 'guardians of the nest' of the joy of witnessing the event.

Chicky news - 2 eggs today, thank you for asking :)

Off now to get some sleep in readiness for another week of doings in Moog's house.

xxxxxxx

So happy to see you had blogged!!!

Lovely fluffy blackbird chicklet and strange flying thing at the top! And hens eggs too? What a feather-featured post this was!

Glad you had a good day too even if the weather was pants!

So if you were brave enough to stay out in that weather did you go in over the pier?

2 eggs already? Good lord.

And as for the Birdman of Bognor, it is perhaps only rivalled by the fenland bog snorkellers and dyke jumpers. Only in Britain ...

Lovely to see your feathered friends are doing so well, but you must have been very soaked after the sea front on Saturday. Hope you have a drier week although if this mornings anything to go by I don't think that'll happen! Jane x

We got drenched on Saturday too, once you're wet it doesn't matter that it's raining - if you see what I mean!

Oh bums :-( I was so looking forward to reading about people plummeting into the sea. I'm not a sadist, really I'm not, it just always looks such fun when I see it on the news :-D

Cute little fluffy bird - you are obviously fabulous hosts. x

Sad news about the cancellation of birdmanning... but good news about the fledgling blackbird - and the home-made chicken eggs, of course :o)

PS. V envious of your double-yolker from last post: it is one of my life ambitions to find me one of them. My gran says she's only had found about three in her life, and she's 88... but maybe I'll find one one day :o)

I've missed reading your funny posts! I'm glad you weren't swept out to sea! And that cute little bird seems quite happy at your place. Now, what about these 2 eggs?! Is that it? No eggs for everyone for breakfast, huh?!

Hmmm .... I'm thinking that it may be fortuitous that the Birdman thingy was cancelled .... wouldn't want to be giving your man more feathery ideas for next year, now would you??

Your chickens look like a great bunch of girls, and I too have double-yolk envy!

I love the 'ears blowing in the wind look' that the Moog was sporting on the beach.

My comment-leaving form is not good today - got very confused this morning as I had VC and WMK open at once - too much for me. I will stick to something simple this afternoon - well done chicken ladies and well done Mr and Mrs Blackbird. Excellent birdy achievements. Sad about the lack of birdman action though.

Lovely catching up on all the doings chez Moog. Your chickies seem to be working out fantastically, certainly earning their chicken mash or whatever it is you feed them. Double yolked eggs, too!

Hi Lesley!

I'm finally catching up with you! So sorry it rained on your seaside activities. Love seeing the chickens -- I'll bet that's going to be a fun venture. Does the dog try to chase them around? How funny you are to describe winning hubby over just like the chicken did!!!

Oh dear. Glad you still managed to have fun. Thanks for giving me a glimpse of home. My foster parents lived in Worthing and I love the place.

YAY more eggs!! I never thought I'd get so excited about someone else's chickens laying eggs, but there ya go!

Love your beach snaps ...nothing like the beach in a strong wind....You will soon need a little sign out the front of your house "eggs for sale"

Your snapshots of Worthing look somewhat familiar, especially the grey skies. We live so close to Worthing and I didn't even know the birdman event was going on last weekend, or not going on as the case may be. Let's hope for better weather next year. x
