A very kind and sympathetic staff nurse was phoning, from A&E, to let me know that the reason my husband was 2 hours late coming home was that he'd had a side on disagreement with a car.
Some muppet of a car driver had turned right across his path at some traffic lights - apparently not even seeing him or the car next to him. My lovely hubby then proceeded - thankfully at low speed - to push his head through the passenger side window of the car.
Incredibly and unbelievably he's fine. He's home after a night spent in hospital. Very bruised. Nothing broken. Utterly exhausted. Totally unaware of what really happened as he blacked out on impact.
Bit p'd off that they had to do this to get his motorcycle jacket off....
...and it stood up remarkably well considering it pushed his head through a toughened glass car window!
His parents are livid. Saying 'I told you so'. Threatening to buy him a car.
His wife and babies are glad he's alive. We know he'll get another bike. We know this man will not welcome being wrapped in cotton wool. We know that if we tell him 'NO' - he'll do it anyway. It's him. That's why we love him...
...even though he's hobbling round like a 90 year old.
The babies have been whisked off for a weekend with Grandma and Grandpa. I'm booked onto an overlocker course tomorrow. Moogsdad insists that I go.
He'll be happy at home with a plate of sandwiches, a flask of tea and as many crappy b&w WWII films as you can shake a stick at.
As I said - 's*** happens'. We deal with it. I'm not going to force us to spend our lives thinking about the 'what ifs'.
Having said that, if either of my kids ever buy a motorcycle - I'll strangle them with it!!
Love. Keep safe. xxxx

Well written Missus. Thank God it wasn't worse. Give Mr Moog some of his homebrew as medicine and tell him Sprocket says "get well super-soon!"

OMG. Thank god for helmets. I'm so glad he's ok.
Here in South Dakota we don't have a helmet law and there are SO MANY idiots who don't wear them.
so glad that he is ok, just walking wounded, shows how good the protection gear is getting these days. Must admit 15 years ago I made the doctors gently manhandle my broken elbow out of my leathers, let them cut the waterproofs off but they weren't touching my jacket!!
Send him my best wishes.
Wow that must have been scary for all involved. Hope he feels better soon. Thank god he was well protected.
eek! Aren't helmets the best? My husband got thrown off his (push) bike recently and I was so thankful that he had a good helmet on.
Glad to hear your husband is ok. I hope he feels better soon. Take care.
well written, I think about this everyday when my husband jumps on his bike. We've been through 3 accidents, one very scary and a couple of bikes due to silly car drivers. I will never stop him from riding either. Glad he's okay.
Thank goodness your lovely DH is ok and thank goodness for helmets too. He's safe so go and enjoy your class tomorrow, it will do you good.
Ouch! for the leathers! Tell him to get well quickly and here's a big hug for you {{}}
Hi L. Shit happens, but so do miracles, and I think this was one of them!
I am so glad that Mr Moog is at home and safe in the bosom of his family.
Not sure I'd be as understanding as you about a new bike though!!
xx
Holy moley, Lesley. I'm so glad he's fine. Hope you and the kids are doing OK - it has to be right up there among worst possible nightmare scenarios.
Wow - thank goodness he is ok. You must have been beside your self with worry. Look after him!
Glad to hear hubby is OK. How happy that you bought a good helmet. Cherrie
Scary. Very. So glad he is in one piece.
Oh, thanks heavens he was unharmed.
I think you're right--you can't live other people's lives for them--but thank God he doesn't want to climb mountains! Or does he? Here in Portland, Mt. Hood is very easily accessible and several people every year are killed climbing it. I always feel so bad for the families involved. But...your guy is okay! Please remember that you had a great shock and will need TLC as well. Best wishes for all of you, Kate
Ooooh. What a close shave. Here's wishing him a speedy recovery. Have a great weekend.

thank goodness he is ok........
we got my DH a motorbike a few weeks ago and he is as happy as a pig in sh!t.I worry too.but the joy on his face is more than worth it.
Glad he is recovering well.
So glad he's okay...I'm not keen on motor bikes at all.
Ooof. Thank God for helmets. Sorry about the bike. But am VERY glad Mr Moog is OK. And that you are, too. Heal well, you both.
gosh! that was really scary! start from that phone ringing! glad he's fine with nothing broken. God bless!
That phone call must have been terrifying. We have helmet laws and adds on tv showing what happens if you don't wear leathers. I'm glad he is okay and you are being so brave xx
Been there, done that, feeling great sympathies for you all. At least nothing is broken, 'cept the bike :-(
Bloody car drivers!!!!!!!
Your in-law's sound just like mine!
Kevlar jackets are easy to replace compared to husbands.
Hugs! xxx
oh my god lesley - what a horrible thing to happen - am so very glad that he is okay - say get well soon from me!
God, that must have been scary. I'm so glad he's ok and hope he is feeling better soon. My hubby has a not-so-secret desire to get a bike and I dread something like this, although, as you say, it's almost bound to happen sooner or later. Everyone I know who has a bike has had some kind of accident but, thankfully, they've all been ok. Thank goodness for bike helmets.
(((big hugs)))
Rachel xx
Glad he's OK! Hope he feels better soon!
I told my son "As long as I'm your mother you will never have a motorcycle". Lot of good that did! He bought a used one and had to ride it from Seattle to Portland on a very wet and rainy day to get it to his house. The freeways are crubbish (skinny, winding) with lots of large triple long trucks. I think the trip was harrowing to say the least! He ended up NOT buying it, thank you Lord Jesus, Amen!!!
So so glad Mr M is OK - what a shock though. I'm especially glad the noggin was safe given recent events. Hope the bruises mend soon. Emma xxxx
What a scary call to get, glad he is in one piece. Keep the 'what ifs' out of your head. x
Oh blimey Lesley - I've only just seen this. So sorry to hear about the accident - just what you all needed. Not. Thank goodness for helmets and leathers, eh? I understand the freedom of bikes, but you do need to be properly 'protected'. Thank goodness he's ok.
Thinking of you. x
Oh Lesley, how horrible - I've only just read this now and I'm so sorry to hear you had such a scary ordeal. Definitely one of the the worst nightmares of a motorcyclist's relative.
So glad to hear that he's comparatively OK though. Big, big hugs to you and yours (((())))
VCxx
PS My word verification is 'dieters'... who let them in here?? ;o)
Glad hubby's ok. Thank God you had a decient helmet.
I think you commented on my "Trials of a biker's wife" post last year so you know I feel your pain on this one - although I'm pretty glad I don't feel Moogsdad's pain...coz..OUCH!!
Glad he's okay and there's no permanent damage. Bet the first thing all his biker mates ask was if his bike made it though ;)
{{{HUGS}}} to you - because I know us Biker wives need them at times like this when we're having those "There but for the Grace of God" moments.
xMx
I'm glad he's okay. Take care both of you.
Don't know what to say, other than so happy he's okay, and you will be too, eventually! Take care.
Poor Mr Moog and poor you, big hugs (but not tight squeezes) all round. Drives me nuts that car drivers often `don't see' motorbikes, I'm extra extra special careful about it as Mr Twigs has been knocked off his bike in the past.
Twiggy x
Glad all is well. I've just shown your post to my hubby and told him "this is why you sold your bike!" I always worried I'd get that call when he rode. My DH has a Shoei helmet too...just in case he ever gets another bike...glad to see it did does what it says on the package.
Take care and hope your DH is on the mend soon.
flippin heck! Thank goodness Moogsdad is OK. Perhaps he should go into stunt work having come off so well from a head through a window episode.
What an awful thing for him to go through, but for you also to get 'that call' from the hospital -your heart must have been in your mouth.
Hugs to all. OXOX

Ironic word verif:
upsycl
Crikey... thank God he's fine with nothing broken. Hope you are all okay after such a shock. Sending love and hugs your way...
How scary. Glad he is ok though!
Yeap you're right Sxxx Happens. Thank heavens for helmets and you are right - wrapping the man of the house in cotton wool and banning bikes forever won't do anyone any good. Life is meant to be lived by all of you. It's good to hear that DH is ok and that you and the kids survived the trauma. Enjoy your course - you need some normality after that little shock. Sending cyber hugs and prayers to you and your family.
Holy Cow Lesley -- that's some darn big S***!!! Thank goodness he's a responsible bike rider and wore his helmet. OhMyGosh -- I'm so glad he's OK!
Oh Dear, thats a fair bit of serious shit right there Moogs.
So very very glad for you that he was going slowly....
he's been very lucky, so glad he's going to be ok. i know how you feel about things like this, my other half is a motorbike rider too (although his is currently in pieces waiting to be rebuilt!)
Scary so senidng lots of ((Hug)) I also have one that would not listen to NO!
i hope you are all ok now and Moogsdad is fully recovered. Helmets are wonderful, Ali flew over her handle bars on her bicycle 10 years ago and the helmet saved her from a head injury she broke her wrist instead. Get well soon. Jane x
Ooh - so glad things weren't too bad and hope Moogsdad is well on his way to recovery!
Oh my goodness, my thoughts are with you. I am a motorbikers wife so understand this post and some of the thoughts about buying cars instead and NEVER allowing children on bikes. The main thing is he is OK.
Sarah x
I have been through the very same situation, my OH had a serious motorbike accident back in the 1980s, I still get choked up when we talk about it now, he hasn't riden a bike since. I am so relieved your husband is OK and he was wearing a good helmet and leathers. Here's to a very speedy recovery. x
Lordy! I ust read this (a bit behind) I hope he's all OK now. How frightening for you. BTW, I work for a PI company :)
